The original crematorium from the late 1960s is located at the Central Cemetery in Ostrava. The task of the competition was to propose a suitable solution for the reconstruction of the crematorium, both technically and aesthetically. Our design respects the original mass and the intended dynamics of the building. We tried not to interfere with the main vertical masses and still keep them as the dominant of the whole. Therefore, it was important to place the small ceremonial hall in its original position. The new northern wing provides spacious technical facilities. The main hall received a lighter tint in the form of white paint, excelled by the existing wooden relief and colorful stained glass. The interior of the small hall is moderate and bright. Vertical garden is a reminder of classical burial in the ground and has a calming effect.
